Cannabis in Delaware's Capital

Kent County sits in the center of Delaware, anchored by the state capital of Dover. While smaller than New Castle County to the north, Kent County has a growing cannabis retail presence and a unique claim to fame: The Farm Felton, Delaware's only drive-thru dispensary.

Dover is roughly equidistant from Wilmington and the Delaware beaches, making it a natural midpoint stop for travelers heading south on Route 1 or Route 13.

The Farm Felton: Delaware's Only Drive-Thru

The Farm at 105 Irish Hills Road in Felton operates Delaware's only drive-thru cannabis dispensary. Located south of Dover off Route 13, it offers a convenience-store-style purchasing experience that's unique in the state. You still need a valid 21+ ID, and the same possession limits apply, but you never have to leave your car.

The drive-thru concept has proven popular in other states (Michigan and Colorado both have drive-thru dispensaries), but The Farm Felton remains the only location in Delaware offering this format.

Dover Air Force Base: Federal Property

Dover Air Force Base is federal property. Cannabis remains illegal under federal law (Schedule I, Controlled Substances Act). Do not bring cannabis onto the base, and active-duty military personnel are prohibited from using cannabis regardless of state law. This includes all DoD civilian employees subject to drug testing.

Dover Air Force Base & Federal Law

Dover Air Force Base is one of the largest military installations on the East Coast. As federal property, all cannabis use, possession, and transportation is prohibited on base, even though Delaware has legalized recreational use. This applies to:

  • Active-duty military personnel (all branches)
  • DoD civilian employees subject to federal drug-free workplace policies
  • Anyone entering base property, including visitors

If you live off-base but work at DAFB, do not transport cannabis through the gate. If you're visiting the Air Mobility Command Museum or other base facilities, leave all cannabis products at your off-base accommodation.

Getting Around Kent County

Route 1 (the toll road) connects Dover to the beaches and to Wilmington/I-95 in the north. Route 13 (Dupont Highway) is the main free north-south artery and passes through Smyrna, Dover, and Felton — all three dispensary locations sit on or near this corridor. Route 8 runs east-west through Dover toward the bay.
